About Tom Pilston

Sarajevo, The Longest Siege. I am not a war photographer. I photograph the World and the people who try to live out their lives in that World. It is a sad fact that, due to some of the worst aspects of the human condition, greed, hatred through fear of those not like us, thirst for power over others , and a primeval fascination with destruction, war is part of that world. War tears people apart, physically and mentally. It makes ragged holes in their minds as well as their bodies. And so it was In the hot summer of 1993 as I made my way to Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia Herzegovina, a multi ethnic, cultured European City that had become the latest battleground in the vicious wars that erupted as Yugoslavia broke apart after the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe. Tom was born 1963 in UK. Worked as a Photojournalist 1985 to the present day. He is based in Oxford and London. Apart from photographing Everyday live, Politics and social issues Tom has covered Conflicts in Bosnia, Kosovo, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, South Sudan, Myanmar, Palestine and Israel. Tom also mentors young Photographers at the University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham Uk.
